My last full sunday in cologne was quite uneventful. I woke up at 11 and did absolutely nothing all day long. Everything is closed on a Sunday in Germany apparently. I had to walk 20 minutes to the closest McDonald’s to even get a whiff of food. I was so hungry and it’s not like i can call my mom and have her bring me something to eat. I had to get up and go get something, i tried to go to the grocery store and get something but it was closed. I tried to go to a burger store BAM CLOSED, so my last option was McDonald’s. I went home and fell back asleep. Woke up and watched football all night long.
I finally decided around 6 pm on Sunday to go to Heidelberg because it wasn’t very far. So I jumped on the train and headed there little did i know it was Tom’s home town. This town was tucked in between 2 mountains with a river running through it and a castle on the hill quite literally. I got checked in early and walked around the town for a good few hours. I went to this traditional German restaurant. I don’t speak German so I acted like I understood what this menu was saying so, then when the server came over and asked what I wanted I Just told her the number on the menu. I had zero clue what it was when the food came out i was shocked it looked pretty good for guessing. But it was not good at all i had 2 bites of it. Apparently it was pig liver sausage and something else I have no idea what it was but i can assure you it was not good. However it was a cool restaurant with giant tables that you just sit by someone random and make friends so that was nice.

After that restaurant I kept walking around and got lost in the city. I made it back to my place Made some dinner and went to bed. Hostels are great but they definitely have there downsides. For instance in this one i had a roommate that thought it was ok to wake someone up for snoring saying he couldn’t sleep even though he just walked in to the room. Then this moron proceeds to make the most noise with his locker and keys. Turns on his flashlight and was WAYYY more disruptive to sleep then the guy snoring ever was.

I woke up to watch the broncos game that was the worst decision of my life i lost sleep just to watch them get railroaded. Just a com waste of my time. Then that guy at 7 in the am somehow managed to be louder in the morning then he was at night. I don’t know how he managed to do it but he did.
since I was awake i decided to go on a run. That was my first run in a good month so it was kinda rough for sure but definitely felt good to get out. I got back decided to get a haircut, I walked to this one place and for 25 euros i got a haircut and a shave. Just an absolute steal and it was a good haircut so that was awesome.

I went back home and made some brunch and headed out. To explore the castle on the hill and everything I didn’t get to see the day before, It was pretty uneventful. I went to bar that tom recommend and had a few beers there and went to meet someone from that hostel world app. Him and i sat at a bar for a little while, then i headed home. When i was making dinner i met some people, we got to talking and stayed up playing card games until 1 in the morning. It is so fun to meet other solo travelers and ask there experiences and how there trip is going.

The next morning I jumped on a train for a 6 hour train ride to Berlin. And I tell you what Berlin is like nothing I have ever experienced in my life this city is crazy! It’s had no problem finding its identity after the war. This city party’s ever single day no matter what. Some people go out on a Thursday and don’t get home until Monday morning type of parting. It is insane and you can tell who is having that type of day there are some creatures here.
When I got in on the first day i got checked in met my roommates and decide to walk around by the hostel it was cool enough I suppose just another big city it felt like. I got some dinner and went back to the room and hung out with my roommates for the night. We had some beers in the lobby of the hostel and met up with some other people bar hoped for a few hours and went to a club. But the clubs here are nothing like they are in the states. It’s hard techno fog so dense you can’t see 3 feet in front of you, and just the loudest music you have ever heard for no reason. The clubs here are very selective of who they let in. The bouncer will take one look at you and just say no for literally no reason. The. Thing that they say here is they check your vibe and who know what that means they can literally just say no for zero reason, its quite frustrating.
On Thursday i woke up around 8 got some breakfast and went back to bed I was so tired but i was not going to let that free breakfast go to waist. I woke back up at 11 and decided to rent a bike and explore the city that way instead of public transportation. I went to the Berlin Wall, Brandenburg gate, Memorial to the murded of Jews of Europe, east side gallery, check point Charlie and Tempelhofer feld. The coolest was definitely the feld this was an old air field turned into a giant park, they didn’t change anything just opened it to a park. You can ride down the runway go up to the old planes and see the bullet holes in the buildings, it was so cool to see and to think that not that long ago there were giant military rallies and parades on the same ground.

Everything else was cool to see but I’m not huge into history but it was definitely cool. I would recommend seeing everting for sure. I think i would have enjoyed everything a bit more of if got there and walked around but there was no good place to lock the bike up so i just kinda road by everting else.

I was very happy to get out of that city I booked a ticket to Prague last minute and jumped on the train early in the am. This was quite the long train ride but it was so pretty so that was nice it reminded me of driving through Glenwood canyon. I met this one guy on the retrain that was so nice and friendly so that made the train ride quite a bit better. I got to Prague around 2 and got checked in to my hostel. It was quite the adventure to this place but finally made it. I walked around the town for a good few hours and it is very easy to get lost in this city. Nothing here runs straight everything turns and winds so getting lost is quite easy.

Earlier in the day I singed up for a pub crawl that started at 8:45, so that was something to look forward to. I made it back to the hostel around 6 and took a little nap before the pub crawl. I heard this pub crawl is one if the best ones in Prague so the only problem was I wasn’t going with anyone so i was going to have to make friends if i wanted to have a good time. The first bar we were at was all you can drink for an hour and a half so that was kinda ideal you didn’t have to pay. The next one bar was not great it was kinda small and just not very fun. The last one we went to was a club and a big one at that. There was probably 2 thousand people in there with balcony’s and stages. This place was awesome and very easy to get trapped in because how fun it was. I got home around 4 and was just exhausted.
As you could imagine when you go to sleep at 4 it’s kinda difficult to have a productive day so yesterday i did absolutely nothing. I was quite upset with my self because i wanted to see the city. So I decided to book another night so i could see the city today. But last night i met some people from that hostel world app and hung out with them for a little while we went to a few bars and the last one we went to was an 80s disco. But there wasn’t much 80s music or disco but it was definitely fun. Most clubs and bars have basements so that is kinda cool because when you walk in it doesn’t seam very busy but you just have to walk to the sound of the music and you will eventually end up downstairs in 90% of the clubs and bars here.

Stock up Stock down
Stock up the gentleman i met on the train just made the whole train ride better. stock up the people i met in Berlin they were awesome and vey welcoming and friendly. Stock all the way down to the guy that thought it was ok to wake someone up just to make more noise. Stock up Prague this place is so fun but there is definitely a limit of how much time you can spend here. Stock down people in clubs that think it’s ok to bump into people and just be completely unaware of themselves those people are the scum of the earth.
What’s next?
I am leaving Prague tomorrow morning and am going to head towards Munich for October fest. But i need to find somewhere to go for a few days before Munich. So I’m not sure where I should go so I better get that figured out in a hurry.
