Week 7 Budapest, maybe Croatia or Switzerland

On Sunday i took an unexpected trip back to Oktoberfest with someone i met on the bar crawl a few days earlier. So we hoped on the train at 6:45 back to Munich, we got there around 11. We walked around the whole festival and tried some of the beer at a few different tents. We stoped in one of them and got some food i got a half chicken with Potato salad. It’s kinda odd how they serve hot food with cold its quite the odd tasting experience but good for sure. We did some more walking around and stoped in more tent and got another stine before we had to get back on the train to head back to Vienna. At ever tent we went into we met super nice people. Everyone there is just so friendly and just there for a good time. It was a way better experience the second time around than my first experience at oktoberfest.

We got back on the train and had a 4 hour ride ahead of us so that wasn’t great but we definitely had a full day and the whole Oktoberfest. I got to watch football on the train so that made it go by fast. We got back, i went home and passed out i was exhausted. I was upset I didn’t stay up and watch the broncos game but I’m happy they won with some “questionable” call. But the good guys won so that’s all that matters.

On Monday I didn’t get the best sleep so i got up pretty early and got some breakfast and my stuff packed to get ready to go to Budapest. I walked to the train station and to my surprise the train wasn’t very busy, so that made it easy to find a seat. Getting on the train with a giant backpack is so much work you are just trying to walk down the aisle and your backpack is hitting everything and you just kinda feel like a clown.

I got to Budapest made my way to my hostel by subway, in evert other country you can kinda just walk on the train and no one check to see if you have a ticket but here they check when you get off and i didn’t have one. So i played dumb and tried to show them my train pass but they were not having it so i had to pay a 12000 HUF fine. My luck was definitely running out for sure it had to happen once on this trip and it was in hungry. I made it to my hostel and luckily i could get checked in a few hours early. I dropped my bags off and went to this one place uncle Richie told me to go, it’s a Mexican restaurant started by 3 guys from Pueblo. I got the chicken chimichangas and they were so good it was so nice to have food from home. I was craving it all night and day after Richie texted me so that was the very first place i went when i got in.

After lunch i walked around and took the buss to the Matthias church and walked towards the Buda castle. Both place had a great view of the city and Hungarian parliament because they were way up on the hill. I was getting tired of walking and my feet hurt so i headed home and took a shower and relaxed. I signed up for an unlimited prosecco cruise at 8:45 but was going to meet some people for dinner before.

I met some guy at that Mexican restaurant for dinner because it was so good i had to go back. We walked to the cruise and met the rest of the group, they were all pretty cool and i met 2 of them before in Berlin. The cruise was nice we went by parliament and all the major sites. It was an hour long so you had to drink as much as you can because it was only an hour.

After the cruise we took scooter to an area called the ruin bar area. This is just the main bar and club area. The bars there are so easy to get lost in there are so many rooms and different hallways it’s insane. We were at one of the famous ones for a little while then we went to a cub that looked pretty Normal but there were 5 floors but 4 of them were underground. They had ever type of music you could imagine from rock to EDM, literally anything you could imagine they had it.

Tuesday i did absolutely nothing i was coaching up on sleep from the past 4 days. It felt so good to do nothing and just rest all day. I got out of my room twice and both of them was to go get food. It was a great way to spend a day.

Since i did nothing on Tuesday i had to crush it on Wednesday, i got up at 10 a walked literally all day long. First i went to get a coffee and walked across the chain bridge to the top of Gellert hegy. It was just a statue on the top of some hill that had a good view but nothing too special. I started to get hungry so i walked to this place called central market hall. It is just a giant building that is what it sounds like a market. Nothing looked great so i went to this other place called Karajan street food. This is just a little area with food truck and i got goulash soup with sausage it was so good i was shocked because it didn’t look the greatest but it was darn good.

After lunch i heard there was an island in the river that was cool. I didn’t know anything other than that it was cool so I decided to take the bus over to it and walk around and explore it for a while. So i did just that for a few hours. It was nothing special but just an island with a few parks and a very small zoo. So that was kinda underwhelming. Then i went to the downtown shopping area, i explored that for a little while and went back up the the buda castle area and explored that area for a few hours until it was dinner time. I went back to that Mexican restaurant to get some chips and salsa and a beer for dinner. Then i went home and got all my things packed to get ready to leave early in the morning.

Early Thursday morning i got in the train to head to Ljubljana Slovenia. This was on the way to Croatia so i figured I should stop and I did not want to travel for 16 hours 12 was enough for me. The train station in Ljubljana is under construction so no trains run so after we crossed the border we had to get off the train and take the bus to town. So that was not ideal by any means it added a few hours to the day so u didn’t get in until 6 and i left that morning at 6 needless to say i was very tired and hungry.

When i got in i got cleaned up to meet a bunch of people at a bar from hostel world. We met at this place that had happy hour from 5-7 i got there at the end of it so i couldn’t take advantage of the 4 euro sprits they were offering. After that place we walked to a different bar and a few more there and met some more people. Then we went to a club but luckily for me a few others it was literally under our hostel so we didn’t have a long commute home. The club was kinda fun it was only techno music and none was enjoying it so we sat outside and played cards. We all got hungry and found a pizza place super close that had pizza by the slice. We all got a slice and headed home.

Friday morning i had a train booked to lake bled and this should have been a hour long train but it was a 2 and a half hour bus ride. I was getting very irritated because i wanted a full day there and the bus dropped us off and 30 minute walk form the town. I was supposed to go with some people but they couldn’t figure out how to get to bus platform 37 mind you there are giant signs that say 37. One Person made it on the bus that i was planing on going with. But I’m kinda glad everyone else didn’t make it because if they couldn’t find the sign who know how they would have been in the city and trying to get around with them. The guy that did make it on the bus wanted to take the long way around the lake and I wanted to go the short way because i was so hungry so we split up i went the short way and he went the long way. I got some breakfast and decided to rent a bike to explore the lake and town.

I got my bike and rode around all day. This lake was so beautiful the lake reminded me of grand lake and the town reminded me of silver thorn. The lake and city was in the middle of the mountains and the water was so blue and clear. Pictures doe not do it justice of how beautiful it was. The lake has an island in the middle of it with a church on it and the only way to get to it is by row boat. I bet during the summer the lake is amazing all around it they have docs and water parks on the lake its incredible I can’t even begin to explain it.

One other person made it up and we met up and went on a hike to a lookout. She was from Utah and was super cool, we did the hike and went our separate ways i went to the castle and she went swimming in the lake. I wish i knew you could swim in the lake because it seamed magical. I went to the castle and it was pretty cool, it was on the top of a mountain so i walked up it and explored it for a while before i got board and hungry again. I headed down and returned my bike and went to a pub had a few drinks before i got some food and started to make a plan to get home. I was a little worried about getting home because of the whole train station. But luckily I could book a train and go to the train station where the replacement buses would pick you up. I got on the bus at 6:30 and didn’t get home until 9, i was just happy i got home at the end of the day. I was very worried i was going to get stuck up there and have to get a taxi or just book a hostel for a night.

Saturday i woke up and got checked out but i wanted to explore the city of Ljubljana for a few hours before my train/ bus left at 3:40 to Rijeka Croatia. I didn’t want to Carry my backpack around all day luckily the hostel i was staying at had bag storage for the day so i dropped my stuff of. My first order of business was to find breakfast, i found a place that had a breakfast that looked good and filling. I had a bagel with salmon and a poached egg with an americano. After breakfast i went to the market they have ever Saturday, it was pretty cool just kinda normal market with produce and goods people made. After that I went to the Ljubljana castle walked around that for a while when i got board i headed back to the bottom. I just walked around for a good hour or so and found a park decided to the Ljubljana marathon. That was super cool to see and read all the thing they had there. I walked back to the hostel and waited for the train/ bus to Leave.

I got to the train station an hour early because i was so worried What it was going to be like. I wasn’t sure if i could have to find a bus or what was going to happen but to my surprise there was a train. I was so relieved to see that there was going to be a train. The train ride was so peaceful i had a whole cabin to my self where i could lay down and look out the open window with fresh air Coming in and an audio book in my ears. I didn’t release how many mountains are in Croatia so the train ride was so pretty. We finally got close to town and bam there was the ocean with the sunset it was incredible. I got off the train and got checked in, i know you wont believe it but i got hungry so i went to look for food. I got some and went home and went to bed i was exhausted.

Stock up/ stock down

Stock up Lauren she was one of the coolest lesbians i have ever met and just a great human. Stock up Budapest what a phenomenal city great people and great vibes. Stock down a few of the guy we met at a bar in Budapest they were just trying to big dick everyone if you said something you have done they have done something cooler and better just very annoying. Stock up the hostel in Budapest they had a wonderful staff and great atmosphere. Stock up some of the people i met on my first night in Ljubljana. A few of them were American so it was nice to connect with people of the states. Stock down some of the people i met at the bar my first night in Ljubljana they couldn’t stop talking about how bad America is and how its the root of all evil even they have never been there. Sock neutral the one guy David we met at the second bar in Ljubljana he had been traveling for 3 years and plans on going another 5 years. He was a strange fella but nice enough. Stock Down the trains in Ljubljana it’s insane they are just not working. Stock down the hostel in Ljubljana i booked a 6 bed mixed but when i got to my room it was literally just 3 beds in the middle of a room with no where to lock up your stuff, just false advertising from the pictures they had. Stock up the Mexican restaurant i went to in Budapest absolutely phenomenal food and service. Stock down the phone service in Eastern Europe. Stock up the pub in lake bled it had a wonderful view and good beer. Stock up Oktoberfest the second time i went, it was a way better experience than the first time i went.

What’s next?

On Saturday i went to Croatia and i will probably be bouncing around there for a week or so. Or i might head to the west of Austria and Switzerland but I’m not sure yet.
